SoleMate Spotlight: Meet Meghan Withrow

SoleMate charity athlete

Name: Meghan Withrow
City: Phoenix, AZ
Number of Marathons Run: 4

How many years have you have been a SoleMate?

1—2022 is my first year as a SoleMate!

What are your top-three favorite running songs?

I listen to all genres to mix it up and also love listening to podcasts on health/wellness and finance. My running playlist is constantly changing, but my top 3 right now are:

  • Lizzo - “Tempo”
  • Foo Fighters - “All My Life”
  • Jet - “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”

Why do you support Girls on the Run-Chicago?

I support Girls on the Run-Chicago because I struggled with self-confidence as a young girl—and still do sometimes to this day

(hello, imposter syndrome!)—and never had anyone to help guide me through that time in my life. GOTR-Chicago is making a huge impact on young girls and teaching them valuable skills that will help them later in life, and I want to give back and be a part of it.

Why do you run?

I run for my mental health—healthy mind, body, and soul!

When did you start running?

I started running 10 years ago.

How do you stay motivated to run on tough days?

I remind myself of the end goal. Every run will be different, and while not all runs will be perfect, I remind myself that they are all helping me get to the start line on race day!

Has running helped you get through or overcome tough times?

I've battled with postpartum depression since having my kids, so running has been the one thing that helps me clear my mind after a tough day. It also is my "me time," and as a busy, working mom, it's important to focus on self-care andget that "me time" in.

What would you tell your 10-year-old self about working toward a big goal?

I would tell myself that while some days may be hard, they are still a part of the journey and don't forget why you set that big goal. A big saying in the Camp Withrow Household is "Trust the Process," and it couldn't be more true.

Do you have any fundraising tips for your fellow teammates?

Focus on your “why” and your connection to the organization. Every person that is fundraising for GOTR-Chicago has their own personal connection, so don't be afraid to share that story. It will allow people to see the true impact that GOTR-Chicago has on the community.

Agility and flexibility. As a military spouse, I've learned to be adaptable and easily embrace new responsibilities or challenges.
