Unlocking the Power of ‘I Can’ : A Journey of Growth

3 girls climbing a mountain, 1 girl at the top proclaiming "I Can!"

At Girls on the Run-Chicago, we know that when a girl discovers the power of “I Can,” she unlocks the confidence to dream big, the courage to face challenges, and the strength to shape her future. These moments of self-belief set the foundation for the leaders, change-makers, and innovators of tomorrow.

Today’s girls are tomorrow’s women, and we are committed to ensuring every girl knows she belongs, her voice matters, and she has the tools to achieve her dreams.

In 2025, we’re committed to maintaining safe spaces where girls can be themselves, unlock their unique strengths, and build connections with coaches, peers, and mentors who inspire them to dream big.

During each quarter this year, we’ll celebrate the moments when a girl realizes she can cross the finish line, can use her voice, and can achieve more than she ever thought possible:

  • I Belong (January - March): Every girl’s journey with Girls on the Run-Chicago is one of transformation, beginning with a sense of belonging. I Belong, we’ll highlight the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment where girls feel valued and free to be themselves. With the encouragement of their coaches and teammates, they learn they are accepted just as they are—an essential first step toward confidence and growth.

  • I Sparkle (April - June): Once a girl feels that sense of belonging, she is ready to embrace her unique strengths. I Sparkle, is where she begins to recognize what makes her special, celebrating her talents and abilities. She embraces the power of her voice  and that she has something valuable to contribute to the world.

  • I Connect (July - September): I Connect, is where she discovers the importance of teamwork, friendship, and supporting others. Through shared goals and challenges, she sees firsthand how strong relationships can provide encouragement and a sense of community. She learns that together, we are stronger.

  • I Can (October - December): Finally, everything comes together with I Can. She applies what she has learned: her sense of belonging, her confidence in her strengths, and the relationships she has built. She uses these to step forward with boldness and resilience. Whether it’s crossing the 5K finish line, speaking up in a group, or overcoming a challenge, she realizes that she can do anything she sets her mind to.

This journey is about more than a single moment; it’s about building a foundation for a lifetime of confidence and strength. In 2025, we are expanding our reach and deepening our impact, ensuring that every girl, especially those in under-resourced communities, has access to this life-changing experience. Through safe spaces, participant barrier reduction, and the launch of our new curriculum, Hello Mountain Mover, we are committed to helping every girl unlock her full potential.

At Girls on the Run-Chicago, we are encouraging girls to believe in themselves, and in doing so, we are shaping the future. Because when a girl knows she can, there is no limit to what she will achieve.
